Okowa, Oborevwori express sadness over passing of Prof. Eferakeya

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday condoled with the family of renowned Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, late Sen. Adegor Eferakeya who passed on Tuesday, at 78 years.

Okowa, also commiserated with the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, the Urhobo nation, Deltans, as well as political associates and friends of the deceased.

According to him, the late Senator, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the 6th Senate, was a renowned medical practitioner in Amukpe-Sapele where he lived a life of service to God and the nation.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, in Asaba on Tuesday, the Governor commended the late Senator’s disposition to serve the people and the nation whenever he was called upon, while always promoting democratic values and culture among his people.

While in the Senate, Prof. Eferakeya led the Senate through a debate on a bill seeking to establish a national DNA data bank to help in the investigation of crime and identification of unknown corpses and also objected to the October 4th 2009 deadline by the Federal government for ending the amnesty it had granted to militants in the Niger Delta, saying termination of the amnesty was premature.

Governor Okowa urged the children, friends and political associates of the late elder statesman to keep alive his commitment to the unity, peace and stability of not only Delta State, but also the entire country.

 
The Governor prays Almighty God to comfort the family and all those who mourn the septuagenarian and grant his soul eternal rest.

Also the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori expressed shock over the demise of Senator Adego Erhiawarie Eferakeya. 

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori described his death as painful. 

Rt. Hon Oborevwori in a Press Statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Dennis Otu, said the news of his death came to him as a surprise. 

“The news of the demise of a prominent Urhobo son and a respected chief in Okpe Kingdom, Senator Adego Eferakeya came to me today as a rude shock. We are surely going to miss him. I pray God to grant his soul eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, he said 

Recall that Senator Prof. Adego Erhiawarie Eferakeya was elected to the Senate for Delta Central senatorial District in 2007 under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He was appointed to committees on Privatization, Health, Ethics & Petition, Establishment & Public Service and the Environment.
