Bode Ojajuni, the Ogun State Police Commissioner, wants the public and police to work closely together. He says this partnership is essential to fighting kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other crimes plaguing the state.
Ojajuni spoke on Tuesday at a monthly Police Community Relations Committee meeting. Effective policing can't succeed without community support, he insisted.
Recent months have brought a surge in violent crimes across Ogun. Armed robbers, kidnappers and cult members have terrorised residents in several communities.
The commissioner promised his command would use intelligence-led strategies. He also committed to people-focused policing that puts public safety first.
According to Ojajuni, sustained collaboration with community leaders remains critical. This approach aligns with national policing reforms aimed at protecting lives and property.
He praised members of the PCRC for their intelligence sharing efforts. Community engagement and advocacy have strengthened police operations, he noted.
Lawal Abdullahi chairs the PCRC. He commended Ojajuni for attending the meeting in person.
It was historic, Abdullahi said. No sitting commissioner in Ogun had personally joined a monthly PCRC session before.
The PCRC chairman saw this as genuine commitment to community policing. His organisation pledged continued support for peace and security across the state.
Tuesday's gathering brought police and community stakeholders into direct conversation. They focused on improving intelligence sharing and rebuilding public trust in law enforcement.
