The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Godwin Ogorugba, has called on community leaders across the council area to work closely with the local government to maintain a clean and habitable environment. Ogorugba made this appeal on Saturday while supervising the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ozoro, the council’s headquarters.
“I want to make a passionate appeal to all community leaders to sensitize their people and cooperate with the council to keep their environment clean and avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse,” Ogorugba said.
Emphasizing his vision for a clean and healthy Isoko North, the chairman underscored the need for collaboration and compliance with environmental bylaws. He outlined critical measures such as proper waste disposal, regular sweeping and clearing of premises, avoiding open defecation, preventing water source contamination, and stopping the construction of illegal structures and trading under high-tension electric cables.
"To make Isoko North safe and habitable, we must join hands and comply fully with these regulations," Ogorugba stated, adding that maintaining cleanliness is vital to preventing diseases and promoting public health.
Highlighting the importance of sanitation to the well-being of residents, Ogorugba noted, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness. By keeping Isoko North clean, we align with the MORE agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which prioritizes the health and safety of the people."
He urged traditional rulers, community president-generals, and youth leaders to step up their efforts in ensuring their communities remain clean. "The council will work in synergy with community leaders and residents to make Isoko North the cleanest local government in Delta State. I also commend our people for their compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise," he added.
Ogorugba's initiative reflects his commitment to fostering a healthier environment and improving the quality of life for residents. He stressed that collective effort and responsibility are essential for achieving these goals.
The chairman, accompanied by key council officials, including the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Pascal Emeluaha, Supervisory Councillor for Environment, Joshua Alebe, and HOD Environment, Mrs. Edith Okoh, led the inspection of sanitation activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Ogorugba’s efforts to engage communities underscore his drive to create a cleaner, healthier, and more habitable Isoko North for all residents.
