Police in Bauchi have stopped a cattle rustling operation and recovered six animals from the Bakal neighbourhood. Intelligence reached officers on June 23 about suspected rustlers moving livestock toward a riverbank.

The tip came through the 'A' Division Police Headquarters in Township, Bauchi. Officers got the alert and sprang into action immediately.

Police operatives worked alongside local vigilantes on the operation. They were led by the Divisional Police Officer for 'A' Division.

The team moved quickly to intercept the suspects in the Goskaram axis area. They recovered all six cows before the rustlers escaped.

"The livestock have been taken into police custody for identification and efforts are ongoing to trace their rightful owners," according to a statement by the command's spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib. He released the details on Wednesday.

Bauchi State Police Commissioner CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered investigators to look deeper into the case. He's also directed officers to hunt down those who fled.

Aliyu praised the officers and vigilantes for their quick work. He noted their professionalism throughout the operation.

Citizens must stay alert and pass information to police, the commissioner urged. Timely tips help stop crime before it happens.

Police say they remain focused on battling rustling across Bauchi State. They promised continued protection of lives and property in communities.
