Governor Dauda Lawal rolled out over 120 truckloads of fertiliser and farm inputs to Zamfara cultivators on Friday. The state government launched its 2026 wet-season fertiliser initiative at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.
The distribution included 72,000 bags of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides, and 100 crop residue crushers, according to Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor's spokesperson. The package also featured 100 grass choppers, 100 feed milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles, and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension agents.
Lawal said Zamfara commands a vital position among Nigeria's key farming zones. "Our state has expansive fertile terrain and determined farmers whose roots run deep in agriculture," he said.
The governor noted that farming drives his people's survival and underpins sustainable growth across the region. He added that agriculture tackles poverty, banditry, and crime while feeding communities beyond state boundaries.
"Farming isn't merely work—it's who we are," Lawal told reporters. "It's our legacy, our strength, and what will secure prosperity for those who come after us."
The initiative will span all 147 political wards across Zamfara's 14 local government areas. Each ward gets 340 bags of fertiliser while every local government receives 8,000 litres of herbicides.
