Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, flag off the construction of the N29.8 billion Aboh–Akarai Road and bridge across the Okiri River in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, in a major push to boost rural connectivity.
The 11-kilometre road project, which includes a strategic bridge component, is part of a broader infrastructure rollout targeting underserved communities in the Ndokwa/Ukwuani axis.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Asaba, describing the project as a “significant step” toward improving access in riverine and hard-to-reach areas.
According to him, the Aboh–Akarai project forms part of a larger package of road interventions approved by the state government to stimulate development across the federal constituency.
He said the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to “equitable development and improved access for rural communities,” particularly those historically cut off by difficult terrain.
Aniagwu listed other projects captured in the plan to include the Inam–Abbi Road, Ogbedigbo–Afor Road, Ebendo–Iyasele–Abala Road, and the Ogbe-Ogume–Ebendo Road (Phase 1).
Also slated are the access road to the Kwale Free Trade Zone, Utage–Uno/Eweshi Utagba–Uno Road, Ushie Township Roads, and the Amai–Aragba Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area.
He noted that the projects are designed to unlock economic opportunities by improving transportation, easing the movement of goods and services, and integrating rural communities into the broader state economy.
The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to draw top government officials, traditional rulers, and residents from across the Ndokwa region, marking what stakeholders see as a critical milestone in the area’s infrastructural development.
