NYSC Confirms Release Of Two Abducted Zamfara Corps Member

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially announced the liberation of two corps members who were held captive in Zamfara.

The scheme’s spokesperson, Eddy Megwa, declared that the military freed the kidnapped prospective corps members on Thursday.

The corps members were travelling from Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to Sokoto State in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus to join the compulsory National Service when the kidnappers ambushed them.

Out of the 11 abducted, three escaped during the attack, leaving eight and the driver in the kidnappers’ hands.

Megwa disclosed that one person was saved on September 1, another on October 20, and the latest two on Thursday. However, four members are still in captivity.

On Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, Megwa expressed the NYSC’s joy with the recent successful rescues.

“Yesterday, we were all thrilled to hear that the military rescued two of our prospective corps members, who were kidnapped in the Zamfara ordeal.

“It’s a reason to celebrate; it’s hope for all of us and the family. Even the remaining four—two girls and two boys—will be rescued very soon.

“It’s been troubling for us in the scheme over these number of months that these young ones that are coming up to serve their Fatherland were kidnapped,” he said.

He said that the released corps members are getting medical care, and once they recover, they will reunite with their families and resume their national service.
