Nollywood Actress Jailed for Mishandling New Naira Notes

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, to six months imprisonment for spraying and stepping on the newly redesigned Naira notes at a social event in Lagos.

The court ruling, which took place on Thursday, has sparked a wave of reactions across the entertainment industry and the general public.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier arraigned Omoseyin on a two-count charge of tampering with the new Naira notes, which were recently redesigned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to curb inflation and promote cashless transactions.

The actress was arrested after a viral video showed her spraying and stepping on the new Naira notes at a party.

During her court appearance, Omoseyin pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her.

In delivering the judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, stated that the actress’ actions were in violation of the CBN Act, which prohibits the mutilation, squeezing, and defacing of Naira notes.

The court sentenced Omoseyin to six months in prison, with an option of a fine of N300,000.

The judge emphasized the need to uphold the integrity of the Nigerian currency and to discourage actions that could undermine the country’s economic stability.

The case has generated a lot of interest and discussions on social media, with many expressing their opinions on the court’s decision.

Some have argued that the punishment is too harsh, while others believe that it is a necessary measure to deter people from mishandling the country’s currency.

As the entertainment industry and the general public come to terms with the court’s decision, it serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting and upholding the value of the country’s currency.
