Nigeria’s Tourism Ministry to Boost Domestic Tourism with Virtual Reality and Documentaries

In a bid to boost domestic tourism and showcase Nigeria’s enormous potential in the tourism industry, the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, has announced plans to market the country’s tourism assets through virtual reality gadgets and documentaries.

During a recent meeting with the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET), Ade-John emphasized the importance of marketing and promotion in the tourism sector.

She stated that the ministry is currently working on producing documentaries on tourism assets and experiences unique to each state, which will not only attract visitors but also encourage them to visit the sites physically.

In addition to the use of documentaries, the ministry is also planning to create community tourism resource centers in every city in Nigeria.

These centers will provide tourists with easy access to information about their choice of destinations within each city.

Ade-John also highlighted the importance of having a functional website that would showcase Nigeria’s tourism assets and make them easily accessible to potential visitors.

She mentioned that the ministry is working on ensuring that when people search for Nigeria on the internet, the first thing that appears is the country’s tourism offerings, as is the case with the United States.

To further enhance the tourism industry, the ministry is collaborating with various organizations such as the National Orientation Agency, Ministry of Aviation, and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

These partnerships aim to bridge the gaps in aviation, transportation, and tourism, ensuring that airfares are commensurate with the tourism offerings and that the country’s point of entries are attractive and welcoming.

The ministry has also created a new department for data gathering to improve the industry, and Ade-John expressed her readiness to work with ANJET and other private tourism operators in the country.

The implementation of these initiatives is expected to significantly boost domestic tourism in Nigeria and showcase the country’s diverse and unique tourism assets to the world.
