Reno Omokri Expresses Disappointment Over Absence of ‘Buy Nigerian Campaign’ in Tinubu Government

Former presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, expressed his disappointment over the absence of a rigorous ‘Buy Nigerian’ campaign in the current President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Omokri emphasized the importance of promoting and supporting locally made products to strengthen the Nigerian economy.

While acknowledging the implementation of some political reforms he had previously advocated for, Omokri pointed out that the ‘Buy Nigerian’ campaign was not being given the attention it deserved.

He encouraged Nigerians to choose locally made alternatives over foreign products, citing examples such as using Glo for communication, driving Innoson vehicles, and flying with Air Peace.

Omokri also highlighted the need for further reforms, including the implementation of the Orosanye report, which would lead to a reduction in the number of Federal government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Additionally, he called for the devolution of powers and the establishment of state and community police forces.

Despite the progress being made in other areas, Omokri expressed concern over the lack of implementation of the Uwais report, which would strip the President of the power to appoint the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its commissioners.

He stressed the importance of fighting corruption, particularly in regulatory bodies, to ensure a more transparent and fair system.

Overall, Omokri believes that implementing these reforms will lead to a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

The absence of a ‘Buy Nigerian’ campaign in the current administration, however, remains a disappointment and an area where more attention is needed to support local businesses and strengthen the economy.
