Nigerian Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali Expresses Disappointment After AFCON Final Loss

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali expressed his disappointment and frustration after the Super Eagles’ 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday.

The Super Eagles had high hopes of securing the prestigious title, but ultimately fell short in a hard-fought match.

The game started positively for Nigeria, with William Troost-Ekong scoring a powerful header in the 18th minute to give the Super Eagles the lead.

However, the tide turned in the second half when Cote d’Ivoire equalized in the 63rd minute and then secured the winning goal in the 87th minute.

Nwabali, who has been a key player for the Super Eagles throughout the tournament, shared his emotions on Instagram, writing, “A disappointing and frustrating end. I deeply apologize to Nigerians. I was once a fan, still a fan, and I understand how it feels giving you a disappointing night. We take full responsibility. Thanks for the whole support till the end. I love you all.”
