Nigeria ranks 40th in the world in latest FIFA ranking

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have slipped one spot to 40th in the world in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking released on Thursday, September 21, 2023. The team also dropped to sixth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

The Super Eagles had a disappointing performance in their last two matches, losing 1-0 to Cameroon and drawing 1-1 with Cape Verde in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Despite thrashing São Tomé and Príncipe 6-0 in their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the team lost 13 points from 1494.32 to 1480.8 in the ranking.
