Nigeria's Super Falcons got their Women's Africa Cup of Nations preparations off to a winning start on Friday. They defeated Senegal 2-1 in a friendly at Ikenne-Remo.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. It was her first game back since the WAFCON 2024 final.

Oshoala showed her usual composure converting the penalty kick. She made an immediate impact in the contest.

Nigeria controlled the first half with dominant possession and constant pressure. Toni Payne doubled their lead in the 43rd minute with a well-taken finish.

Payne, like Oshoala, was also returning to international action after WAFCON 2024. His goal underscored the experience within the squad.

The Super Falcons dictated play throughout much of the match. Senegal's attacking threat was limited for long stretches.

Senegal pulled one back in the 86th minute to make it 2-1. Nigeria held firm in the closing minutes to secure victory.

This was the first-ever meeting between the two nations. The encounter carried historical significance as both teams prepare for the continental tournament.

Head coach Justine Madugu will use the result to fine-tune tactics. Morocco will host the WAFCON where Nigeria seeks to defend their title.

The teams meet again on June 8 at the same venue. Another friendly has been scheduled to continue their preparation work.
