NGO, KPMG to empower 300 secondary school students on leadership skills

By Henry Oladele

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN), says it has partnered with KPMG to train 300 secondary school students on leadership roles.

The Executive Director, JAN, Mr Foluso Gbadamosi, in a statement on Wednesday said the training was part of the effort to further prepare young people for the future.

He said it was also to help them solve some of the biggest challenges in their communities and in the world.

“JAN has partnered with KPMG Nigeria to implement yet another cycle of the JA Career Success Programme.

“The JA Career Success programme is a seven-week programme that equips students with the skills required to earn and keep a job in high-growth career industries,” he said.

According to him, the programme is  targeted at building the job readiness skills of young people in senior secondary schools.

“Using a JA Nigeria-developed curriculum, the beneficiaries will be equipped with the necessary skills for employment in today’s job market.

“They will also be encouraged to make improved decisions for their future,” he said.

He said that preparing young people to thrive in such a competitive world had become extremely important more than ever.

“That is why this programme covers key areas and top skills that prepare young people with skills and knowledge needed to start and thrive in the career world.

“These skills include 4Cs which are Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity.

“Others are strong soft skills, work priorities, STEM, personal-branding,  job-hunting tools; resumes, cover letters, interviews,  digital profiles and skills needed in high-growth/fast paced industries,” he said.

Gbdamosi said JAN was driven by the need to constantly nurture and expand the potential of young Nigerians and prepare them not only to become locally competitive but also thrive on a global stage.

He thanked  KPMG for the  partnership to  prepare the next generation for employment and entrepreneurship.

Mr Tola Adeyemi, the Senior Partner, KPMG West Africa,  said the company was committed to inspiring confidence and empowering change.

“This is why we are so passionate about the work we are doing with JAN to empower young people with the potential to become the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders and change makers.

“We are committed to supporting community and social vitality through education and life-long learning,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that since its inception in 1999, JAN has reached over one million students in over 20,000 classrooms in 36 states.
