NGO enjoins Delta Community to embrace mediation in protracted conflict with Sawei Family over Benisede Flowstation

The Society for Community Peace has enjoined members of the Ojobo Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State to embrace Mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism in resolving the protracted conflict with members of the Sawei family over the allocation of resources accruing from the Oil and Gas wells surrounding the Benisede Flowstation in the Community.According to statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, by the media Officer, Comrade Celestine Ukah and signed by the Coordinator of the NGO, Mr Omayeli Okotie, “it is imperative that both members of the Ojobo Community and the   family embrace mediation as an avenue to negotiate settlement of the conflict between them.”

The Statement, while commending the willingness of the representative of the Sawei family, Mr Newman Edward, to embrace mediation, also appealed to the Traditional Highness of Ojobo Community, Chief Thompson Brisibe, the Community Chairman, Chief Tito Ekolo as well as  other notable personalities of Ojobo Community, including Hon Funkekeme Solomon and Tam Brisibe, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Delta State,  Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to accept a facilitated negotiation of the prolonged conflict.

It is very much pertinent to acknowledge that The Society for Community Peace is an independent NGO dedicated to Conflict Transformation and Peace Building activities in communities across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
