NFC Mourns Recent Nollywood Deaths, Calls for Improved Industry Conditions

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Mr. Ali Nuhu, has expressed his grief over the recent deaths of renowned filmmakers Saratu Gidado, also known as Daso, and John Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope.

In a statement released on April 12, 2024, Nuhu highlighted the significant contributions of the late actors to the Nigerian film industry and the profound impact of their loss on colleagues and stakeholders.

Nuhu emphasized that the deaths of Gidado and Odonwodo have left the Nigerian movie industry in mourning, emphasizing the need for improved working conditions and safety measures for industry professionals.

He also acknowledged the late actors’ roles in various notable films and their ability to captivate audiences, both in the Kannywood and Nollywood sectors.

As a Lifetime Achievers Awardee at the Zuma Film Festival (ZUFF) 2023, Gidado’s legacy in the film industry is undeniable.

Her performances in films such as ‘Linzami Da Wuta’ and ‘Gidauniya’ have left a lasting impact on Nigerian cinema. Meanwhile, Odonwodo’s talent and versatility shone through in movies like ‘Honey Money’, ‘Blood Affair’, and ‘Wrong Initiation’, where he showcased his acting skills and ability to connect with viewers.

The NFC, under Nuhu’s leadership, has pledged to support initiatives that promote better working conditions for industry professionals, including medical, health, and life insurance schemes.

Nuhu also extended his condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the deceased, as well as the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

The loss of these legendary filmmakers serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the well-being of those who contribute to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.

It is hoped that the NFC’s commitment to improving industry conditions will pave the way for a safer and more supportive environment for future generations of filmmakers.
