The Nigeria Democratic Congress is holding primaries nationwide today to formally ratify Peter Obi as its 2027 presidential flag-bearer.

Obi sailed through screening unopposed after the party vetted him in Abuja weeks ago. He emerged as the sole aspirant for the top job.

Members of the Obidient Movement have urged party loyalists to rally behind the former Anambra governor. They're pushing for unity ahead of today's exercise.

The NDC shifted its primary timetable following logistical challenges and travel disruptions. Public holidays had thrown the initial schedule into disarray.

All voting activities—for presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state legislative seats—happen in a single day. Obi's ratification is essentially a formality at this point.

Contests for other positions will proceed as originally planned across state chapters. Aspirants remain keen to secure nominations in their respective races.

Party leadership approved direct grassroots voting for state assembly candidates under new guidelines. Officials say this pushes transparency and accountability downward.

In a policy break from tradition, the NDC allowed all screened aspirants to participate today. Winners alone must pay nomination fees after results are announced.

Winning candidates have until results drop to settle their fees with party officials. This arrangement compresses the timeline substantially.

National election committees designated by the NDC will process and verify all results. State party executives cannot independently declare winners in their jurisdictions.

Official pronouncements will come through the NDC National Headquarters in Abuja once verification concludes. The party is keeping a tight grip on the process.
