National Heath Insurance Authority aims to widen coverage

The NHIA (National Health Insurance Authority) is reaching out to various places, such as streets, markets, and private businesses in Enugu State, to educate them and raise awareness of the Authority’s programmes and benefits.

The NHIA main programme, GIFSHIP( Group, Individual, and Family Social Health Insurance Programme), which targets Nigerians, especially those in the informal sector of society, was presented to the large crowds who came out to listen to the message from the NHIA.

The activity, which is a key part of NHIA’s social marketing and awareness creation strategy, is aimed at informing residents on the importance of the GIFSHIP as a reliable programme to ensure access to quality and affordable healthcare services without the disastrous burden of paying for huge medical bills out of pocket.

At the different places visited, the State Coordinator of NHIA, Mrs. Nnadi Ngozi Maureen, highlighted the bold vision of the federal government through the NHIA to ensure that all Nigerians, regardless of their socio-economic status, have unrestricted access to care, thereby achieving its mandate of universal health coverage for all Nigerians and legal residents.

She explained that a lot of reforms had been implemented to ensure that this goal was achieved and maintained.

Some of the reforms, she explained, include the BHCPF, the NHIA Act 2022, the revised operational guidelines, the work of the committees on mandatory health insurance and innovative healthcare financing, and the NHIA Medicine Supply initiatives, among others.

The awareness and sensitization campaign saw the NHIA team full of energy and enthusiasm as they crossed popular locations, busy streets, markets, and businesses across the state capital.

Mrs. Nnadi urged Ndi Enugu to take advantage of the GIFSHIP platform, especially during this period, and get themselves, families, and staff registered for one year with N15,000, N45,000, and N60,000 for group, individual, and family social health insurance, respectively.
