N2.2bn given to 613 families of police officers who died on duty

The families of some brave police officers who sacrificed their lives for the nation have been given a token of appreciation worth N2,276,110,966.80.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, handed over the Settlement Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme benefits to 613 family members on Thursday.

The federal government is responsible for funding the Life Assurance Scheme, while the Nigeria Police Force is in charge of the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

Egbetokun advised the recipients to spend the money wisely and responsibly.

He stressed that the money should be used for the welfare of the families who lost their loved ones.

He said that the gesture was a way of showing compassion and support to the families of the fallen heroes and also to help them cope with their daily challenges.
