N1.5m Fraud: Court remands physically challenged man in prison for alleged forgery in Delta

A Magistrate court sitting at Ughelli, Delta State has remanded a physically challenged man, Mr Difeh Samuel and one Mr Felix Victor in prison custody for allegedly forging an admission letter of the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna, to defraud a woman of N1.5million.

The suspects were reported to have also allegedly conspired among themselves to defraud a woman, Doris Samson of the sum of N1.5million.

Samuel and Victor  were arrested by men of the Ughelli ‘A’ police division for allegedly forging an admission letter of the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna and using same to defraud an aged woman who was seeking admission for her daughter of the sum of N1.5million.

Advocate gathered that their fraudulent deal was blown upon when one of the suspects, Mr Felix Victor not satisfied with the amount collected so far, demanded for an extra N67, 000 and N475, 000 as acceptance fee on behalf of Precious at a stipulated date failure of which the admission will be forfeited.

However, after both suspects were arrested and detained at the police station, one of them who is physically challenged and wears a prosthesis, was released on bail by the police medical ground.

Narrating her experience in the hands of the suspects, Mrs Doris Samson said: “I agreed with them that if they can provide part of my money for me, we can settle out of court, but unfortunately, they have been bragging and harassing me that they will use their judicial powers at the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, to ensure that the matter is discarded to their advantage.

“If the matter cannot be settled amicable, am appealing that the suspects should be prosecuted accordingly for the untold financial hardship they caused me and my family.”

According charge sheet made available to Advocate, the suspects were slammed with five-count charge of conspiring among themselves to commit felony and obtaining money under false pretense with intent to defraud their victim of the sum of N1.5million.

They were also accused of allegedly “forging a National Population Commission certificate of birth and an Abaji Area Council certificate of indigeneship which affixed with seal, signet and stamp and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 467(b) of the criminal code laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2008.

In her ruling, the presiding magistrate, A.A. Edewor remanded the suspects in prison custody till November 5, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
