By Ovasa Ogaga,

A mortician in one of the mortuary in Oghara, Delta State, is currently cooling his hell in police net following the missing corpse of a 58 years old woman, Mrs Patience Amughoro kept in the hospital mortuary.

Mrs Amughoro was said to have died last year after a brief illness and her corpse kept in a mortuary in the Oghara.

The family had planned to bury her on February 20 but were stunned when on Saturday morning after preparations, they arrived at the mortuary to find the body missing

Okiemute, a family who spoke to our correspondent said that the mortician had earlier presented a body to the family and on close observation they had found out the body was not Mrs Amughoro’s own, “that was when he (the morgue attendant) began pacing up and down looking for the body, that was when he told us that the body was missing.

“We were shocked. There was no explanation. We had made arrangements to give our Auntie a good send-off, and it hurts that we don’t have his body,” Okiemute said, adding that they had reported to the police.

Another source who craved anonymity told said that “we were surprise that a whole dead body should go missing from mortuary, I have never heard of corpse developing legs and leaving the mortuary” he said.

When probed further on how everything happened, the source explained that “Madam Amughoro died last year after a brief illness, she was kept in the mortuary while her children and relatives continue their plan to commit her to mother earth but on Saturday, after the canopies and chairs were arranged and even grave dug, they went to the hospital morgue only to find out that the body of their mother was missing, as I speak to you they have arrested the mortuary attendant.

“We have been puzzled by the turn of events, the disappearance of her body is tormenting my family,” Kobiruo, a relative of the deceased said yesterday.

Attempt to reach to the hospital board of the private hospital for clarification was met with brick wall as the management refuse to comment on the issue.
