A devastating fire has destroyed at least four vehicles at a mechanic workshop in Ibadan on Saturday evening.
Located in Akingbade along Old Ife Road, the workshop caught fire around the same time a container on the premises was consumed by flames.
Fortunately, nobody died in the blaze. Maroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
According to Akinwande, firefighters from both the state and federal services arrived at the scene quickly. They discovered a container and four vehicles already engulfed in thick smoke.
"Sparks from an engine compartment ignited combustible materials," Akinwande told reporters. Swift action by his team prevented the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings.
In a separate incident that same day, Ogbomoso residents faced their own fire crisis. A prefabricated shop and attached six-room house burned down at No. 5 Ile Atagbonrin in Stadium Area.
Property worth millions of naira went up in flames. Akinwande also confirmed details of this blaze to our reporters.
Authorities haven't released an estimate of total losses from both incidents. Investigations into the causes remain ongoing.
Both fires underscore growing concerns about fire safety in Oyo State. Officials say residents must be vigilant about electrical installations and combustible storage practices.
Akinwande urged workshop owners and homeowners to maintain fire extinguishers on their premises. He also emphasized the importance of proper electrical maintenance to prevent future tragedies.
