Maduka University Enugu has responded firmly to a viral video posted by content creator Mrs. Chika Akhigbe regarding her daughter's official transcript.
The student studies medicine and surgery at the institution.
According to university officials, the Registrar asked the student's father to name which institution should receive the transcript. He never provided that information.
University authorities explained that official transcripts follow standard protocol. They're sent directly to receiving institutions, not handed to parents or students personally.
The father initially told officials he needed the transcript to apply for admission elsewhere. Later, he claimed he couldn't afford the processing fee.
During subsequent visits across campus, he allegedly threatened to take legal action and escalate matters publicly. He visited the Admissions Office and Bursary Department making similar threats.
In her video, Mrs. Akhigbe claimed the family had settled all tuition bills completely.
University records tell a different story.
According to officials, the family owes N500,000 from the N3.5 million fee for the 2025/2026 session. As of May 21, 2026, they haven't paid any transcript processing charges either.
She also alleged that the university increased fees for returning medical students to N4.5 million yearly. University management denied this claim outright.
The actual fee for returning medical students, including accommodation for 2026/2027, is N4,010,000. That academic session hasn't begun yet.
Mrs. Akhigbe suggested the university hikes fees annually, making education unaffordable for families.
Officials countered that they maintain one of the lowest fee structures among comparable institutions.
She described her daughter as the best-performing student in her class. The university dismissed this assertion as false.
Regarding campus security, Mrs. Akhigbe raised concerns about insecurity on the grounds.
The university stated firmly that no security breaches have ever occurred since establishment.
University authorities noted that the Vice-Chancellor never engaged with her family about transcripts. All interactions happened exclusively with the Registrar and Records Office staff.
Officials accused Mrs. Akhigbe of attempting to damage the university's reputation deliberately.
They suggested she's using her daughter's education to boost social media engagement and followers.
Management stated plainly that she's trying to pressure the institution into abandoning established protocols. University officials said they won't compromise on proper procedures regardless of public campaigns.
The statement made clear that standard academic practices exist at universities globally for good reasons. Maduka University intends to maintain these standards consistently.
