Liverpool has appointed Spanish manager Andoni Iraola as their new head coach. He replaces Arne Slot for the upcoming season.
Iraola departs Bournemouth after three seasons with the club. He guided them to their best-ever league finish this past campaign.
Under his stewardship, Bournemouth secured European football for the first time in their history. The Cherries completed an impressive turnaround during his tenure.
Details of his contract at Anfield remain undisclosed by the club. Liverpool officials have not revealed the length of his deal.
The 43-year-old expressed unbridled enthusiasm about joining the Merseyside giants. In his words: "Really excited, really excited."
Iraola acknowledged Liverpool's stature in world football. He noted: "You know that it's a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world."
He spoke of the club's special character and appeal. According to him, Liverpool needs little to attract quality managers to its cause.
"You don't need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool," he said. "Liverpool is Liverpool."
The prospect of winning silverware with elite players proved irresistible to the Spanish tactician. He emphasized the pull of the club's supporters and atmosphere.
"The chance to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles," he explained. "I think it cannot be more attractive than this."
Iraola inherits a Liverpool squad that surrendered the Premier League title to Arsenal last season. The club finished below expectations domestically.
This marks his fifth managerial position across his coaching career. His trophy haul spans eight years and includes just one honour.
He won the 2018 Super Cup while managing AEK Larnaca in Cyprus. That remains his only silverware as a manager to date.
