Liberia will never forget Nigeria's support during its most difficult times, the country's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday. Amb.

Ethel Davis made this declaration while meeting with Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, in Abuja.

Davis stressed that Liberians hold Nigeria in their hearts as their closest ally. "If you woke up any Liberian citizen from sleep and asked them who their best friend was, the first thing that would come to mind would be Nigeria," she told the Nigerian minister.

She praised Nigeria's government and people for their consistent backing of Liberia over the years. Davis emphasised that her country stood by Nigeria through its darkest period in history, making the bond between them unforgettable.

The deputy minister said the two nations now wanted to deepen their ties in a spirit of brotherhood. She explained that the Abuja meeting centred on finding fresh ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Monrovia and Abuja.

Enikanolaiye highlighted the rich historical nature of Nigeria-Liberia relations since diplomatic ties were established. He noted that Nigeria's extensive engagement in helping restore peace, security and stability to Liberia demonstrated the strength of their bond.

The Nigerian minister pointed out that the relationship had grown beyond government-to-government dealings into person-to-person connections. "This visit is intended to consult more on our bilateral relations and ensure that there are no irritants," he said.

Enikanolaiye welcomed Liberia's planned investment summit scheduled for August in Lagos. He confirmed Nigeria was partnering with Liberia, particularly through private sector involvement from both nations.

He added that such collaboration would boost commercial, trade, and economic ties between the countries. The minister believed the partnership would elevate Nigeria-Liberia diplomatic relations while advancing peace, prosperity, and security for citizens of both nations.
