Lewis Hamilton stamped his authority on Monaco's tricky streets Friday, posting the quickest time in second practice for the Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver clocked 1:13.026 to edge teammate Charles Leclerc by just 0.111 seconds in a closely contested session.
Leclerc, the local favorite, couldn't quite match Hamilton's pace despite Ferrari's strong showing around the Monte Carlo circuit.
Hamilton's dominance marks another impressive step since joining Ferrari last season. The 41-year-old has visibly grown more comfortable with the Prancing Horse machinery.
His resurgence gained momentum following a standout display at Canada two weeks ago. Observers credited setup adjustments and his new race engineer Carlo Santi for the progress.
Max Verstappen finished third for Red Bull, trailing by 0.168 seconds. Mercedes' George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli filled fourth and fifth places respectively.
Both Mercedes drivers stayed within half a second of Hamilton's benchmark time. The gap between the top five remained remarkably tight heading into Saturday's qualifying.
Hamilton holds a special record at Monaco — he's won here three times before. He captured victories in 2008, 2016, and 2019 on this demanding street circuit.
He's now hunting his 105th pole position and 106th career victory this weekend. Beyond that, an eighth Monaco podium finish would match Ayrton Senna's legendary tally.
Ferrari showed genuine pace Friday. But whether that translates to qualifying success remains uncertain given the competition's proximity.
