A 22-year-old pregnant woman from Plateau State has been rescued after collapsing on a Lagos street and successfully delivered a healthy baby girl. Tingni Kindness was found unconscious in the Allen area on June 6 and taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, following an emergency alert to the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The Lagos State Health Management Agency's emergency response unit, LASHMA-AID, sprang into action immediately after receiving the distress call at around 9 p.m. that evening. They secured a bed space at LASUTH and had Kindness transferred for urgent medical care.

Doctors stabilised her condition before she went into labour on June 21 and gave birth to a baby girl. At a handover ceremony at LASUTH in Ikeja, Lagos State formally transferred both mother and newborn to Plateau State Government officials for ongoing support and rehabilitation.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, permanent secretary of LASHMA, said the swift response showcased the effectiveness of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's executive order on emergency healthcare.

"Immediately the alert came in, LASHMA-AID swung into action and contacted LASUTH for bed space," she said.

The order guarantees emergency stabilisation for anyone facing life-threatening conditions, regardless of their ability to pay. Zamba told reporters the programme remains committed to providing lifesaving emergency services to vulnerable residents across Lagos State.

She made an appeal to the Plateau State Government to support the young mother economically. "She has no source of livelihood.

We urge the Plateau State Government to empower her so she can adequately cater for her baby," Zamba added.

Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, chief medical director of LASUTH, said Kindness arrived unconscious but not in labour.

He explained that hospital staff stabilised her and were arranging temporary shelter when she suddenly went into labour.

"Our managed care commenced immediately and she was stabilised. As we were making arrangements to transfer her to an appropriate shelter because she had no accommodation, she went into labour and successfully delivered her baby girl," Fabamwo said.

The hospital later contacted the Plateau State Liaison Office in Lagos to arrange the safe return of mother and child. Mrs.

Philomena Yakubu, principal administrative officer at the liaison office, commended all parties involved in the rescue.

Yakubu, representing Plateau State's commissioner for women affairs, told reporters that the intervention saved two lives. "If not for the swift intervention of LASHMA, only God knows what could have happened," she said.

She assured that Plateau State Government would provide the mother and child with necessary care and support going forward. The case highlights the lifesaving impact of Lagos State's emergency healthcare response system.
