On Monday, the Lagos State Government smashed and seized 1,500 motorcycles, known as “Okada,” for breaking state traffic laws.
The Ministry of Transportation oversaw the operation at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Wale Musa, who witnessed the operation.
Osiyemi told the press that the 1,500 motorcycles seized in the past six months were destined for crushing as a sign of zero tolerance for the unlawful activities.
The commissioner also advised the Okada riders to adopt the many alternative modes of transportation offered by the government, as more First and Last Mile buses were planned to be added to the city.
Osiyemi said, “I urge the riders to keep away from the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will continue.
“There is no turning back because it’s government policy and the government does not take its decisions lightly.
