A two-storey building collapsed near Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town on Thursday afternoon. LASEMA teams pulled 27 people alive from the rubble and recovered nine bodies.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene around 12:47 p.m. in Amuwo-Odofin. Rescue crews arrived within 40 minutes of the initial distress call.
LASEMA's Sharks Response Team from Lekki and Alpha Cobra Squad from Onipanu led the operation. Multiple agencies joined the effort across Friday morning.
Fire and rescue personnel worked alongside LASAMBUS ambulance crews on site. Police, soldiers, and the Red Cross also provided support throughout.
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation deployed two heavy-duty excavators to help clear debris. LASEMA's own excavator worked continuously to reach trapped occupants.
All 27 survivors received immediate medical care from LASAMBUS officials. Hospital workers treated them for injuries sustained in the collapse.
Nine fatalities emerged from the wreckage during the operation. Four people were confirmed dead before rescue teams arrived.
Among the dead was a two-year-old girl recovered on Friday morning. Five additional bodies came out of the debris during active rescue efforts.
Rescue work ended around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, according to LASEMA's Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale. Ground zero had been reached by that time.
State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit took custody of all remains for identification purposes. Families will receive the bodies for burial arrangements.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed LASBCA to test nearby structures immediately. Building inspectors will check adjoining properties for safety.
He also ordered strict compliance monitoring across the area going forward. No similar incidents should occur in Lagos, officials stressed.
LASEMA expressed sympathy to bereaved families on Friday. Officials wished injured survivors a quick recovery.
