Armed gunmen stormed Government Secondary School, Olowa in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday, abducting the principal, four students and a NECO examination official during an ongoing exam session. The attack happened around 5:25 pm as candidates were sitting their papers.
Counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a security report. He said the attackers forced their way onto the school premises and rounded up six people before vanishing into the bush.
"The attackers abducted four students alongside the principal of the school and a NECO ad hoc official before fleeing to an unknown destination," Makama's report stated.
A joint security team mobilised search-and-rescue operations immediately after learning of the kidnapping. Operatives have since begun efforts to track down the abductors and recover the captives.
Security sources told Makama that one of the four abducted students has already been freed. The authorities are pushing hard to bring back the remaining victims.
According to the report, security personnel have launched intensive bush-combing operations across the region to hunt for the kidnappers' camp. Intelligence officers are gathering information and conducting surveillance to pinpoint where the gang is hiding.
Makama noted that investigations into the assault are underway as security agencies work to identify those behind the attack. Officials are also focused on restoring peace in the affected area.
