Labour Party Chairman Abure Released After Arrest Over Alleged Murder Attempt

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has been released on bail after being arrested on Wednesday in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Abure was taken into custody by the Zone 5 Police Headquarters over allegations of attempted murder, as reported by a former Youth Leader of the party, Eragbe Anselm Aphimia.

Abure was released by 2am on Thursday and addressed his supporters, stating that the struggle for liberation is not an easy one and that his persecution is an attempt to destabilize the party.

He emphasized the importance of continuing the fight for the people, despite the challenges faced.

Since the general election in 2023, Abure and his colleagues have faced accusations of forgery, embezzlement, and other charges.

However, investigations have shown that many of these accusations are false.

The arrest of Abure and others came at a time when preparations were being made for the Edo State primaries.

Despite his release, the Edo State Chairman of the Labour Party, Kelly Ogbaloi, and the youth leader remain in custody, with the police promising to release them in the early hours of Thursday.

The release of Julius Abure on bail highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Labour Party in Nigeria.

As the party continues to fight for the people, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the political landscape in the country.
