Katsina Government Takes Action Against Food Hoarding and Rent-Seeking

The Katsina State Government has taken a bold step to address the issue of food hoarding and rent-seeking in the state.

Governor Dikko Radda has approved the establishment of a 27-member committee to enforce a ban on these practices, as announced by Adullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

This move comes after the government outlawed the hoarding of food items and other essential commodities in the state.

The newly formed committee is tasked with ensuring strict compliance to the Food Security Promotion Order and identifying individuals involved in hoarding grains.

The committee will also engage stakeholders in commodity pricing and work to arrest and prosecute those found to be hoarding food items.

Members of the committee include representatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and various community and religious leaders.

The committee is expected to be inaugurated by the governor on February 21, signaling a strong commitment to tackling the issue of food insecurity in the state.

This proactive approach by the Katsina government is a positive step towards ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of essential commodities among its citizens.
