JAMB has cracked down on tertiary institutions bypassing its admission system. The board's registrar, Prof.
Ishaq Oloyede, warned that admissions outside CAPS are unlawful.
Oloyede made the declaration at Monday's Policy Meeting on Admissions in Abuja. He accused some schools of issuing admission letters to unapproved candidates.
According to him, this practice violates Federal Government rules. It also compromises the fairness of the entire admission process.
He noted cases where high-scoring candidates were rejected. Meanwhile, lower-scoring applicants got admission offers instead.
Disciplinary action is already underway against offending institutions. Oloyede said sanctions would follow shortly.
Eleven universities currently face court charges for illegal admissions. The case is ongoing before the judiciary.
Candidates had raised concerns about exam centre postings. Some claimed they were assigned outside their preferred towns.
Oloyede dismissed these allegations as baseless. He explained that candidates pick their exam towns during registration.
Centers are only assigned within those selected locations, he stressed. Investigations confirmed no candidate was posted elsewhere.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission reviewed the matter too. Their findings aligned with JAMB's position.
All tertiary admissions must go through CAPS without exception. Oloyede urged institutions to follow approved procedures strictly.
