The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has pushed back its Direct Entry registration deadline to May 8th.

This gives candidates seeking admission through alternative qualifications more time to apply. JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed the extension in a statement released Wednesday.

Direct Entry targets students with A-levels or diplomas. They don't need to sit the UTME to gain university admission through this route.

JAMB said the decision ensures no eligible candidate misses the opportunity. The move reflects the board's commitment to expanding access to tertiary education nationwide.

The original deadline was April 25th. Officials decided the extra two weeks would help more applicants complete their registration successfully.

In a related development, JAMB has opened five new registration centres. This step targets areas where demand has been particularly high.

The Centre for Open and Distance Learning at University of Ilorin opens first. Bells University of Technology in Ogun State will also serve applicants.

Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye joins the network. Two more centres in Oyo and Lagos states round out the expansion.

The Lagos facility at Human Development Initiatives in Iwaya begins operations April 30th. Officials expect this to ease congestion significantly in the southwestern region.

JAMB emphasized that registration happens only at official Professional Registration Centres. Candidates should avoid using unofficial agents or intermediaries.

Board officials said their offices remain open nationwide. Prospective students can visit any centre to complete their applications now.

Applicants have until May 8th to submit all documents. Officials urged candidates not to delay as the deadline approaches.
