Washington has flatly rejected claims by Tehran that its military downed an American aircraft over Bushehr province. The assertion contradicts statements from Iranian media outlets about destroying a hostile plane near the country's sole nuclear power station.
According to Tasnim news agency, Masoud Tangestani, governor of Jam county in Bushehr, said conditions remained stable after the alleged incident. He confirmed the aircraft had been destroyed but noted the district had returned to normalcy.
Iranian defense forces allegedly shot down a US drone Thursday afternoon over the southern coastal province. A military official told the semi-official news outlet that surface-to-air missiles intercepted and destroyed the unmanned aircraft.
Both sides have offered conflicting accounts of what happened. The US denial directly contradicts the Iranian narrative about the engagement.
