Inspector General of Police Distributes N2bn to Families of Deceased Officers

In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity and support, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has presented a sum of N2bn to the families of deceased police officers.

The event, which took place on January 19, 2024, at the Police Headquarters in Abuja, saw the IGP personally handing over the cheques to the next-of-kin of the fallen heroes.

The funds, which were distributed under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme, are aimed at providing financial relief to the families of the deceased officers.

The beneficiaries included 785 families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the policy years of 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2019/2020, 2021/2022, and 2023.

Speaking at the event, the IGP expressed his gratitude to the President for his administration’s commitment to the welfare of police officers and their families.

He also emphasized the importance of the insurance policy in ensuring that the families of the deceased officers are not left to suffer in the face of tragedy.

The beneficiaries, who were visibly emotional, expressed their gratitude to the IGP and the Nigerian Police Force for their support.

They also called on the government to do more to protect the lives of police officers, who often face great risks in the line of duty.

The distribution of the funds has been widely praised by members of the public, who have hailed the gesture as a step in the right direction.

The event is a clear indication of the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its officers and their families.
