Imo State Police Command has dismissed a circulating video claiming bandits attacked communities across the state. The force warned residents against spreading false and misleading information.

Spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the Command's position in a statement released Thursday. He said the video is old footage, not recent events as claimed.

According to police, the footage shows an attack from July 25, 2025. The assault occurred in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA.

Unknown gunmen led by Ifeanyi Okenta, alias Gentle the Yahoo, carried out that attack. It resulted in loss of lives, the Command confirmed.

Police said they've already responded to that incident. Security agencies launched intelligence operations after the July assault, the statement noted.

Some suspects were arrested and prosecuted. Others were killed in shootouts with security forces.

Authorities continue hunting for fleeing members of the gang. Operations remain active in the state.

Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso reacted to the viral video on Friday. He urged Imo residents to ignore the false clip entirely.

Bosso told the public to stop sharing unverified content online. Such videos damage public peace and security, he warned.

Anyone deliberately creating or spreading false security reports will face arrest. Prosecutions will follow in accordance with Nigerian law, Bosso said.

The Commissioner reassured residents of police commitment to their safety. The Command works with other security agencies to protect lives and property.

Bosso encouraged vigilance among citizens in their communities. He urged people to report suspicious activities to nearby police stations immediately.

Residents should rely only on official police information channels going forward. The Command will continue addressing security threats across Imo State.
