Encouraging the new fellows to deepen the programme’s reach, the Senator urged them to approach the assignment with discipline and purpose, noting that their emergence followed a highly competitive selection process.

The second batch of fellows under the National Health Fellows Programme has met with Senator Ede Dafinone ahead of their formal inauguration in Delta Central, reinforcing momentum for expanded grassroots healthcare interventions across the district.

During the courtesy visit on Monday, February 16, 2026, the fellows formally introduced themselves and outlined their operational focus, centred on preventive care, community engagement, leadership and data-driven health interventions. The programme is designed to strengthen primary healthcare delivery by promoting early detection and community-level public health education.

Reflecting on the impact of the first cohort, Senator Dafinone highlighted their outreach efforts on diabetes and hypertension awareness, which included free medical screenings, health education campaigns and support for access to essential medications. Many residents, local accounts indicated, underwent routine checks for the first time through the initiative.

Encouraging the new fellows to deepen the programme’s reach, the Senator urged them to approach the assignment with discipline and purpose, noting that their emergence followed a highly competitive selection process.

With the inauguration scheduled for Tuesday, attention now turns to implementation, as the fellows prepare to drive preventive healthcare engagement across communities in Delta Central. Public health stakeholders view the initiative as a timely intervention amid rising concerns over non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.
