Gusau vows to introduce VAR to NPFL

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has pledged to ensure the introduction of a video assistant referee (VAR) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Gusau made the declaration during the first retreat of the management and staff of the NPFL in Abuja.

The football administrator said the NFF will begin the process of introducing VAR into Nigerian football by sending some referees to countries that have already implemented VAR to learn its application and usage.

“I can guarantee you that VAR will be effectively implemented in our domestic football before the end of my first term as president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. It will be gradual, but we will definitely get there,” Gusau stated.

“I also want to applaud the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League for their relentless efforts to improve the league for the better. The NFF and the league management will continue to introduce programmes and innovations that will ensure the growth of the league.
