Governor Zulum Urges FG to Reconsider Merging Army University with NDA and Maintain NCAM Status

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called on the Federal Government to reconsider merging the Army University Biu in Borno with the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.

He also urged the government to maintain the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) in Ilorin as an independent entity rather than making it a department in the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Army University Biu, established in 2018, is a conventional university that has been playing a critical role in the education of students in the North East, particularly in Borno, where education has been severely affected by over a decade of insurgency.

Governor Zulum believes that merging the university with the NDA would be detrimental to the educational development of the region.

Similarly, Governor Zulum stressed the importance of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization, which is responsible for fabricating agricultural tools and implements in Nigeria.

He believes that maintaining its current status is crucial in promoting food security, especially at a time when the Federal Government is focusing on the issue.

The governor expressed his hope that a technical committee would be set up to review the measures taken by the Federal Government and reassess the importance of these institutions in their current form.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the Federal Government will reconsider its decision and take Governor Zulum’s concerns into account.
