Governor Zulum of Borno State Allocates N1 Billion for Teachers’ Training

Governor Babagana Zulum has approved a substantial sum of N1 billion for the training of basic-level teachers across the state’s 27 local government areas.

This decision aims to improve the teaching qualifications of educators and, in turn, contribute to the reduction of out-of-school children in the region.

During the inauguration of the newly appointed local government education secretaries, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of the training program, which will cover over 1,000 teachers who currently hold only O-Level certificates as their highest qualification.

The training will enable these teachers to attain the minimum teaching qualifications required to provide quality education to their students.

Since his administration began in 2019, Governor Zulum has been working towards rebuilding devastated school infrastructures to improve learning outcomes.

This effort has already led to a significant decrease in the number of out-of-school children, dropping from over two million to around 800,000.

The newly appointed education secretaries have been tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the governor’s vision for quality education is realized. Governor Zulum warned that any education secretary found to be underperforming would be replaced.

He also announced that the education commissioner would be providing quarterly reports on the performance of each education secretary.

In addition to the training program, Governor Zulum allocated 58 utility vehicles to the education secretaries to enhance their mobility.

Each education secretary received a Toyota Hilux double-cabin 4-wheel-drive pickup truck and a Volkswagen Golf 3 wagon.

The governor stressed that these vehicles should be used for official purposes only and operated by authorized drivers.

The allocation of the N1 billion for teachers’ training and the provision of utility vehicles for education secretaries demonstrate Governor Zulum’s commitment to improving the education sector in Borno State.

By investing in the development of teachers and providing necessary resources, the governor aims to create a conducive learning environment for students, ultimately reducing the number of out-of-school children and fostering a brighter future for the state.
