Gbajabiamila Calls for Unity, Asks Atiku, Obi to Accept Supreme Court Verdict

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has appealed to the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict that affirmed Tinubu’s election in the February 25, 2023 presidential election. Gbajabiamila also urged all Nigerians to come together and support the government in addressing the challenges facing the country.

Gbajabiamila made the call while speaking to journalists after the Supreme Court delivered its judgement on Thursday, October 26, 2023. The seven-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Okoro, unanimously dismissed the appeals filed by Atiku and Obi, saying they lacked merit and were frivolous. The court also upheld the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which had earlier validated Tinubu’s victory.

Gbajabiamila described the litigation as a distraction and said it was time to move on and focus on governance. He said Tinubu was a Democrat who had always extended his hand of fellowship to his opponents and other Nigerians. He said Tinubu would continue to do so and work for the peace, unity, and development of the country.

He said, “The litigation is a distraction. The litigants exercised their rights to go to court. But that has come to an end now. We now have to all come together as one country or one people and move ahead to take this country where it rightfully should be.”

He added, “We shouldn’t take things personally. If you listened carefully to the judgement, the judgement was very sound by any objective and supported with facts, with cases.”

He also commended the Supreme Court for delivering a clear and concise judgement that put an end to the legal challenges against Tinubu’s election. He said the court had shown that it was independent and impartial in dispensing justice.

He said, “I want to commend the Supreme Court for delivering a very clear and concise judgement that has put an end to all litigation. The Supreme Court has shown that it is independent and impartial. It has shown that it is the final arbiter of justice in this country.”
