Supreme Court Verdict: Tinubu Seeks Unity and Cooperation of Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court that dismissed the appeals filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), challenging his election in the February 25, 2023 presidential election. The president also called on all Nigerians to support his government in building a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, Tinubu said he accepted the judgement of the apex court with a sense of responsibility and preparedness to serve all Nigerians, irrespective of their political, religious, or ethnic affiliations. He said the court had done justice to all the issues raised in the petitions and affirmed his victory, which was freely and fairly given by the majority of Nigerians.

He said, “I welcome the verdict of the Justice John I. Okoro-led Panel of the Supreme Court on the presidential election petitions filed by the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, challenging the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Tinubu also commended the Supreme Court for delivering a clear and concise judgement that put an end to the legal challenges against his election. He said the court had shown that it was independent and impartial in dispensing justice. He also praised his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for its support and dedication throughout the electoral process.

He said, “I want to commend the Supreme Court for delivering a very clear and concise judgement that has put an end to all litigation. The Supreme Court has shown that it is independent and impartial.

Tinubu further appealed to his opponents, Atiku and Obi, to accept the verdict of the court and join hands with him in moving Nigeria forward. He said he was ready to work with them and other stakeholders to address the challenges facing the country. He said he had no ill will towards anyone and that he was willing to listen to constructive criticism and suggestions.

He said, “I appeal to my brothers, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, to accept the verdict of the court as an expression of the sovereign will of Nigerians. I urge them to join me in working for the progress and development of our nation. I extend my hand of fellowship to them and all Nigerians who may disagree with me on some issues. I have no malice towards anyone.

He concluded by calling on all Nigerians to support his government in building a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation. He said he was determined to deliver on his promises and fulfil his mandate. He said he needed the cooperation and prayers of all Nigerians to achieve his vision.
