Funke Akindele Addresses Accusations of Neglect: ‘I Was Depressed Losing My Mom’

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has responded to allegations that she failed to help her colleague and fellow cast member of Jenifa’s Diary, Adejumoke Aderounmu, before her untimely death.

Aderounmu passed away over the weekend, with the cause of her death not disclosed.

In a series of Instagram posts, Aderounmu’s brother criticized Funke Akindele for not showing love to his sister, unlike other Nollywood stars, such as Rita Dominic and Sotayo Gaga.

However, during an Instagram live session, Funke Akindele expressed her displeasure over the accusations and explained her side of the story.

The actress revealed that she had inquired about Aderounmu’s well-being and was unaware that she had been sick until the news of her death.

She emphasized that she has had her trying times, including the loss of her mother, which led to her depression.

During the live session, Akindele said, “Someone made a comment on my page just now that I will bury my children.

What have I done wrong? Jummy was part of Jenifa’s crew. She acted her role in Jenifa’s dairy and industreet and got paid, that was it.

You know Jenifa’s dairy is on a break and we are not working on the project, so most of the cast, we don’t really see each other.”

She further explained that she reached out to Aderounmu’s brother to offer her condolences and support.

Akindele also clarified that she is not one to ignore the needs of those close to her but prefers to help without making noise about it.

The actress emphasized that she has faced numerous challenges in her life and career, including backlash during the COVID-19 pandemic, political issues, and personal struggles.

Despite the accusations, Akindele remains focused on her work and continues to break records in the Nollywood industry.

As the Nollywood community mourns the loss of Adejumoke Aderounmu, Funke Akindele’s response sheds light on the complexities of relationships within the industry and the importance of understanding the personal struggles of others.
