Former President John Mahama Expresses Stance on Same-Sex Marriage Ahead of 2024 Election

Former President of Ghana, John Mahama, has made his stance on same-sex marriage clear, stating that his faith does not allow him to accept such unions.

This announcement comes as Ghana prepares for its 2024 presidential election, with the former president being a leading opposition candidate.

During a meeting with members of the clergy in eastern Ghana, President Mahama, a member of the Assemblies of God Church, said, “The faith I have will not allow me to accept a man marrying a man, and a woman marrying a woman.”

He further emphasized that he does not believe anyone can change their gender, stating, “I don’t believe that anybody can get up and say I feel like a man although I was born a woman and so I will change and become a man.”

While expressing his personal beliefs, President Mahama did not say whether he would sign a bill aimed at criminalizing same-sex relations should he win the election.

This statement has sparked debate among the public, with many people expressing their views on the matter.

The issue of LGBTQ+ rights has been a controversial topic in Ghana and other African countries.

In recent years, there have been increased discussions and activism surrounding the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals in Ghana, and the government has been under pressure to address the issue.

President Mahama’s statement is likely to influence the opinions of some voters in the upcoming election. It remains to be seen whether his stance on same-sex marriage will affect his chances of being elected in 2024.

As the election approaches, it is important for the public to be informed and to engage in open and respectful discussions on this and other important issues.

The outcome of the 2024 election will have a significant impact on the future of Ghana and its people.
