FG to Reward Super Eagles After Reaching AFCON Final: Nigeria’s Triumph in Ivory Coast

In a thrilling semi-final match at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Nigeria’s Super Eagles emerged victorious over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, securing their place in the final with a 4-2 win on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Federal Government has promised to reward the team for their commitment and dedication in reaching this stage of the tournament.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was present at the game on Wednesday, expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishment in a post on the Super Eagles’ X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He was accompanied to the dressing room by Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Minister for Youth, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, Oil mogul Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

The match was a nail-biter, with both regular-time goals coming from penalties.

Nigeria’s captain William Troost-Ekong scored after 67 minutes, while South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena equalized in the 90th minute.

Nigeria thought they had scored a second goal through Victor Osimhen, but play was called back to the other end of the field after VAR revealed a foul on South African Percy Tau in the penalty area.

South Africa had a chance to win the match in added time, but Khuliso Mudau missed the opportunity. South Africa finished the game with 10 men after Grant Kekana was sent off in the 115th minute for a last-defender foul.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have a perfect record against South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations, having won all four of their previous encounters.

With their victory on Wednesday, they have secured a spot in the final against either Ivory Coast or the Democratic Republic of Congo, who will play later.

As the Super Eagles prepare for the final on Sunday, the Federal Government’s promise of a reward serves as an added motivation for the team to bring the trophy home.

The nation eagerly awaits the outcome of the final match, as the Super Eagles continue to make their mark on the international football stage.
