FG Sensitizes Katsina Residents on Trade, Skills Acquisition for Self-Reliance

In a campaign by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, residents of Katsina State were encouraged to acquire skills and vocational education to promote self-reliance.

The event, organized by the ministry’s skills development and certification department, was part of its apprenticeship and traineeship attestation program in the North West Zone and Katsina town.

During the tour of various training centers, the deputy director of the skill development and certification department, Engr. Tiza Chiila Shaakaa, emphasized the importance of young Nigerians embracing apprenticeship and handwork.

He stated that the department’s mandate is to focus on vocational skills, as outlined in the Labor Act of the Nigerian federation.

The sensitization exercise, which began last year, has covered 12 states so far.

It was also highlighted that the approved age for apprenticeship starts at 12 years, and anyone training an apprentice below this age is engaging in child labor.

The North West zone director, Aliyu Abdullahi, explained that the awareness campaign aimed to ensure local apprentices were well-trained and focused on their mandates.

He encouraged all degree holders to embrace skills and trade, as it has now become the hope of every scholar and well-meaning individual.

The initiative by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is a crucial step in promoting self-reliance and economic growth in Nigeria.

By providing vocational education and training, the government is empowering its citizens to take control of their financial futures and contribute to the country’s development.
