FG begins building new homes for displaced people in Benue

The federal government has launched a project to build new homes for the people who lost theirs in Benue State.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, who laid the first stone on Thursday at the Mbagwen community in Makurdi LGA, said the government wanted to restore the dignity and well-being of the displaced people.

Dr. Edu said that President Bola Tinubu cared deeply about the suffering of the people who had been forced to leave their ancestral lands and wanted to give them a decent place to live instead of shacks.

She said, “To all those who have come from the camps to witness this event, this is the start of your journey back to your roots.

‘We paid N141.1 million for projects executed by certified contractors’ Stop patronising quack doctors—Lagos 1st lady tells women “President Tinubu has an eight-point agenda. The first is called food security, and the people of Benue State are vital to him in achieving that food security.

“You cannot turn a food basket into a hunger zone. President Tinubu says no. You cannot turn the hope of a nation, the food basket of the nation, or the food security stronghold of Nigeria into pain and sorrow. It is unacceptable, and today is the beginning of that solution.”

Edu explained that the houses would be built in groups using local labour, adding that people in every community would be involved in the project, which she promised would be completed within six months.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, on his part, said the security situation in the state was not only about herders’ attacks but also banditry and kidnapping, noting that there was already ongoing secret security work, which is why the state currently enjoys relative peace.
