Nigeria's transportation ministry has slashed train fares by half for the Eid-el-Kabir holiday period. The discount applies to all passenger services run by the Nigerian Railway Corporation nationwide.

The reduction takes effect Tuesday, May 26, 2026 and ends Monday, June 1, 2026. Osima Gift Seddon announced the measure in a statement released Tuesday on behalf of the Deputy Director for Information and Public Relations.

Funsho Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transportation, explained that all ticket prices have been cut to 50% of normal rates. Passengers who'd already bought full-price tickets before the announcement will get a 50% refund, he noted.

Those refunds can be used for travel until June 1, 2026. Train schedules will remain unchanged, according to him.

The ministry said it's appreciating Nigerians for their continued support. Officials wished all passengers and Muslim worshippers a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
