Farewell to a Dedicated Teacher: Corps Member’s Body Leaves Adamawa for Hometown After Tragic AFCON Match Death

The body of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Yunusa Peter, who passed away during the AFCON semifinal match between Nigeria and South Africa, has left Yola, Adamawa State for his hometown in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State for final interment.

Yunusa, a 26-year-old Community Health graduate of Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, Makarfi, Kaduna State, was due to complete the compulsory national youth service program on October 31, 2024.

He was teaching Chemistry at Government Secondary School Numan before his untimely demise.

As reported by Linda Ikeji’s Blog, Yunusa slumped and died while watching the match, which ended in a penalty shoot out in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Wednesday, February 7. The Super Eagles emerged victorious in the match.

On Saturday, February 10, a farewell gathering took place at Numan bridge, where Secretary to Numan LGA, Adamawa State Elder David Belu Alfredmond, alongside the Principal of Government Secondary School Numan, management, staff of the college, Corps members, and students paid their respects.

Yunusa’s body will be laid to rest on Sunday, February 11. The loss of this young man has been felt by his community and fellow Corps members, as they mourn the untimely passing of a dedicated teacher and a promising youth.
